Resolved Question: What is the point of Cosmopolitan magazine?

I realize it's some kind of women's magazine, but I think it's just a waste of money, and I don't know why they buy it. Every issue has something big on the front cover that's usually titled, "10 ways to not suck in bed", or "6 ways to please your man that don't include laying there like a futon". Can somebody explain? more

Resolved Question: I am running out of ideas!?

Hi everyone, Thursday Jones has been urinating on my futon and I'm at my wit's end. I did ask this question a day or so ago and got an answer about mousetraps (which I'm afraid might hurt him, so I won't do), but I'm hoping other folks might have other ideas. I have gone so far as to email a local rescue to begin the process of putting TJ in the "owner foster" program, where he'll continue to live with me while the rescue lists him until a new owner is found. Here are the things I have tried to solve the couch-peeing problem: Veterinary exam and urinalysis -- Yes, he has a MILD UTI, and he did get an antibiotic injection for it. This was nearly 5 days ago. Since then, he's peed on the couch SIX more times! I thought surely I'd see a little improvement by now. Besides, this recent jig of him peeing on the couch hasn't been the only time. He's done this I'd say every couple of weeks for the past 2-4 months. He is neutered, and to my knowledge there are not any intact cats in the apartment complex. I've cleaned the couch with Nature's Miracle, hoping to remove any left-behind kitty smells. I have washed the decorative covers and replaced them SEVERAL times, cycling through my 3 covers. Since I put on the most recent clean futon cover, I found a plastic carpet-protector and laid it spiky-side up on the couch. A couple of days ago I left him here alone for a few hours with the carpet-protector on the couch, and came home to find a puddle on the plastic carpet runner! Clearly, having his paws poked by little plastic spikes does not bother him. In my 500 sq. ft apartment I have ONE cat and TWO litterboxes which are scooped EVERY day. The addition of the second litterbox just happened a couple of weeks ago after the LAST time he peed on the couch. One of the litterboxes is situated immediately next to the couch. It is a covered litterbox. The other litterbox is in an opposite corner, uncovered. I use Tidy Cats litter. I tried a feliway plug-in for about a month until the little oil canister ran out. I have not bothered to buy a refill, but I intend to go out today to get more feliway. (Should I get a diffuser refill or the feliway spray?) My veterinarian/boss has suggested possible behavioral medications -- i.e., buspirone or fluoxitine. I haven't done this yet but am seriously considering it. The past couple of days he's been staying in his "room" with litter box, food, water, toys, and bed when he's not supervised. It's the only way I can come home confident that he hasn't peed on anything. Is there ANYTHING ELSE I can do to get him to stop this?! I am exhausted and exasperated. more

For the last 3 years there's been something happening in my bedroom. For example one night I was lying asleep in my bed. It was fairly early in the day. Around 7:40ish because me and my parents had been moving into the new house and I was exhausted by moving boxes. Later on that night around 11:00 I woke up with a start only to feel something moving under my futon. At first I panicked because I thought I accidentally placed my futon on top of my cat Cupcake. So I moved it out of the way and notice there was nothing there. I slowly placed my futon back on the floor. At the time I was still sleepy and my head feel right back on my pillow. Two days later it happened again but instead of going back to sleep I got up and switched on my top room light. Mind you that we were still moving in and most of my stuff hadn't came yet so there weren't a lot of things in my room. Just the futon, my sword, and a box of clothes. Because my room was so small it was ALWAYS warm in there but I was freezing my ass off that night (I slept in thick knee-high socks that night in summer!) I was about to switch back off my light when I heard this strange sound. I can really explain it but it was a mix of groaning, deep laughing, and a one-person whisper. It's true that it did freak me out at first but my Dad was always into horror films and he usually laughed at them for some odd reason.... Anyway I went out into the hall way and put my ear up the restricted hallway. (Restricted meaning the parents hallway.) I heard nothing from there. Being an only child I never really had to worry about siblings making noise when I slept. But again I ignored this an fell asleep in my room again. That next night IT happened. It was the same thing sound and movement and it was colder than the other night. I ran to switch on my light. Again I didn't see anything. I got irritated and switched the light off. I think the time was around 2:00. When I laid back in my futon I noticed my sheet was slightly wet at the edge. I thought it was sweat or my own drool. I laid my head back on my pillow and it was wet too so I simply flipped it over and tried falling asleep on my back instead. But that when I felt something cold and clammy on my skin. I freaked an jumped up whilst pulling my sheet off to see what was it. There was nothing. At that point I didn't want to sleep in my room anymore so I got my futon and sheet and headed to the guest room. (But at the time it was being used as a storage room to old all of the things we didn't unpack yet.) I set my things down and slipped under my covers. I fell asleep. I don't know if I was dreaming of what but In my "dream" I was still in the guest room but only the boxes were gone and the place was completely empty. I started to sit up but I couldn't something heavy was keeping me down. It was almost like someone was sitting on me. In my struggling heard a eerie voice laugh like it was directed at me, I completely stopped moving when I felt a clod hand like (something) on my leg. The thing started to move into my inner thigh and upwards onto my crotch. I screamed hoping someone will come bu no one did. In a flash my night shit and boxers disappeared! I was completely naked!! I looked up and saw this thing. I was like a monster. (It stood tall at about 6 feet or something, it was all black and had purple eyes. It's hands were long and scaly. It also had tentacles! TENTACLES PEOPLE!!!! It was all slimy looking but still sorta bony.) It move forward and was almost standing on top of me yet he was weightless. That thing did horrible things to me that night. I tried telling my parents but there too busy and when I did tell them one time they said it was a bad dream. But I know that things real in some strange way. I need help on this. Please help what should I do this happens almost every night! Please I don't want Christan and Atheist advice. After all I'm Pagan. Thank you! more

Resolved Question: Do I remove the futon cover to make up the bed?

The cover to my new futon encloses the mattress entirely. It zips off. It takes two people to remove it. Could I just open out the futon, place a mattress pad over the cover, then linens? more

i am writing a novel and i am open to constructive criticism regarding the book to improve it. please rate 1-10 (1 being horrible 10 being magnificent) and explain why and how i can make it better thanks! It is eleven p.m. and Angela Simmons is straining her hazelish colored eyes at the glowing computer screen. She saves and exits her potential novel word document and shut off her computer. Swiveling around in her office chair she pauses to observe her 7 year old son Tj who is snoring softly on the futon covered in a Thomas the train blanket and clothed in blue footsie pajamas. Angela switches off the table lamp scoops her young son into her arms and carries him down the dark and narrow hallway. With her left hands he pushes open her son’s bedroom door and lays him on his yellow oak framed twin sized bed. She covers him in a quilt, kisses his forehead and trudges back to her own room. The television set is still on blaring some paid programming show. Eddy is on his side of the bed snoring aggressively. Angela sighs opens her dresser and fishes around for a pajama top. She selects a blue oversized tank top with yellow ducklings on it. She turns the TV set off and slides into bed next to her husband. “Angie?” Eddy grumbles opening a blood shot eye. “Yeah?” Angie replied turning over to face him. “I love you…” Eddy mumbles before falling back asleep. Angie smiles, falls back on her pillow, places Eddy’s fat hairy arm around her waist and drifts into a somewhat peaceful slumber. The next morning Angela awoke with an unshakably chipper spirit, she allows herself to be carefree and even to ignore the bags under her eyes, her love handles and chaffed lips when she glanced in the mirror. She can hear the theme song to Sponge Bob square pants blaring in the living room, she comes to a conclusion that Tj is up. Angela pulls on a red robe over her petite 5’1 126 pound frame and casually walks out into the sun bathed living room. Tj is on the couch eyes glued to the TV screen whilst his uncle Micah Is seated at the kitchen table reading the comic strips and humming the melody of an R&B song that is playing on the radio placed upon the windowsill beside him. “Where’s crystal?” she asks. Clearing a few dishes from the sink. “Sleep,”” Micah answers briefly looking up from the newspaper. “You ain't worried bout nothin but them comics, huh Micah?” Angela asks slightly annoyed, “Nah sis, just what I do in my mean time.” “You ain't got no mean time. How bout you use that newspaper to find a job,” Angela retorts running the faucet over a macaroni incrusted plate. “Ay sis get off my back!” “Get out my house.” Micah is quiet after that. The door to Micah’s bedroom swings open and a grungy looking Crystal waddles out. “Morning June bug,” jokes Angela. Crystal frowns, and hobbles to the windowsill, where like an old woman; she slowly lowers herself to a sitting position. “Ain't no good morning for me,” she says shifting her weight. Voting Question: PLEASE HELP!! Are these bed bug bites?

I have about four random bumps that look like mosquito bites on my legs; one on one thigh and two on the other spaced apart, and one on the underside of where my knee is. They do itch and I have no idea as to how nor when I got them. I always wear pants (even to bed), so where they are is almost all ways covered. I know not if this is relevant, but I sleep on a futon. Now, do these sound like bed bug bites or did a mosquito have a feeding frenzy? I would like to know for sure. more

Resolved Question: I have a question about a roommate situation?

My roommate is started seeing a new girl or whatever, and the other night he wanted the room. Being an awesome roommate, I was like sure go ahead (the rule when it comes to needing the room/having sex is, just don't do it on the other persons bed, that's what we agreed). Well beds are lofted this year, so we got a futon, we split it fifty-fifty, and when we got it originally, we both said to eachother, wonder who will "break it in" first. Well, he and this girl got freaky or whatever, so he is under the impression that he "broke it in" because I have not had any form of a girl near me (he doesn't know I am gay). The truth of the matter is, I broke that bad boy in a couple months ago, while he was away with a friend in Chicago. So the question is, if it is brought up, later down the road when I have told him I am gay, would it be a bad idea to correct him by saying I had sex on that futon? I mean, most straight guys don't want to know that their gay roommate had sex with another guy all over the a bed he spent money on (but he did the same with a girl). Im 13 btw...(people always ask lol) Here I am, High once again. Not really high, just enough for a bit of a buzz. I’m high in the one of the 2 places I could ever feel safe in. My room. My room with the gross water stained walls. They really need a new coat of paint. I have a desk covered with band stickers, pictures, and other crap that has accumulated over the years. I also noticed "B" was over on the futon. Someone had obviously checked on us in the night because she was covered in a nice soft comforter, and I had been covered with a damp, smelly used bath towel from the adjoining laundry room. She was also semi-nude, but wearing only the shirt I had on the night before. I quickly got dressed, gave the dog a biscuit , and left quickly. I left my shirt because I did not want to wake her. okay so I'm redecorating in smoky blue and chocolate brown... I have: A brand new futon A brand new coffee table A loft bed (honey colored wood) with a built in desk A (honey colored wood) dresser And a bookshelf that I'm moving out Problem: my desk is COVERED IN JUNK!! SO is my bookshelf.... I've been able to split some stuff into categories: 1.) Books 2.) Art supplies 3.) Notebooks but what about all the junk?!?! What do I do with it...I use it but how do I organize it allsaying 'get shelving units' doesn't help me!! more

Voting Question: redoing my room for a cheap price?

I live in Minnesota and I want to re -do my room. I'm 13 year old girl and my room is really small so I was thinking of getting a convertible sofa. I thought that would be easier than a futon, since you don't have to buy the mattress and frame separately. I want to know where to get the cheapest one. I'm thinking about having a zebra theme, with maybe a zebra cover for the convertible sofa and a zebra lamp or chair. My carpet is a whitish- color, so i don't feel the need to replace that. but my walls are in need of a paint job and it's one of the things i need to do to re - do my room, so i want lime green walls, then 3 stripes going around all of the walls. the colors of the stripes would be blue, pink, and orange.I need a new lamp too. I have a window on one side of the room, and on the wall next to that there is a big desk that used to be attached to my bunk bed thing. I'm thinking of getting rid of that.I have a hot pink furry rug that I don't know what to do with, and two mattresses laying on the floor right now. but i'm getting rid of those. In my closet is this entertainment stand sort of thing where i keep most of my stuff. my room is really small so I want a convertible sofa to make more room . Resolved Question: Waking up with bug bites - what are they?

Hello everyone, I'm kind of freaking out because I woke up this morning and my shins were covered in bug bites. I suspected bed bugs, of course, and have read a lot about them in the last hour. There are no signs of bed bugs though - I even cut open my futon a little bit, and I don't see anything in there. I checked in every crack and crevice around the bed and couldn't find any sign of bed bugs. Could it be something smaller, or does this definitely sound like bed bugs? Thanks! more

My mom and I are moving and she's letting me design my room to make it nice and personal. I play a bunch of different instruments and love listening to music, so I decided to have a musically themed room. Here's what I have planned: Colors- a classic black and white For one wall maybe cover the wall in CD's (I've seen this, it's really neat) For another wall (opposite of this wall) have sheet music wallpaper. And for the other two walls, just a smooth white. I plan on having the furniture be simple and black. I'd like to have a futon replace my bed to save space. I'm hoping to move out at the beginning of 2010. I know it's early but I'd like to find something and start saving accordingly. I'll be turning 18 and getting kicked out of where I live now. I need to check into what utilities are included, but I don't need cable since I just watch everything on my laptop, and I only use my cell since it's a pay as I go, and I'm not a big phone person, and I need to plan out for my car insurance, since i'll be getting my first car soon. I know I'd need to consider my food and gas bills obviously as well Can anyone give me a good estimate on how much I should be looking to make per month so I can swing all this? My current job is only part time and I get about $900 a month so I can save about half of my income till January when I'd be looking to move. How much more should I look to make? I know the economy is bad but I have a few months to find the other job thankfully. And no, my family will not provide any financial support whatsoever. I know it's small but from what I've been reading it's larger than most studio apartments, I think it's fine for oen teenage girl and a cat though. My boyfriend and I have been doing a lot of traveling, and we think we brought home bedbugs from one of our trips. Where we live, we know it is common to have bedbugs, but we need some help to stop them! We have done A LOT of research, and have been living with the bedbug problem for nearly 2 weeks! I have been getting eaten alive, and my boyfriend suffers minorly (we know that males tend to not show a reaction quite as bad as females do). This is a serious problem! We have invested in a "dust mite" mattress cover, and have purchased covers for the pillows. We will be getting one for the futon soon. We had the exterminator in the house the other day, and he lazily sprayed around and checked the bed area(s) and said that it was unlikely for them to travel through the carpets. We know they are laying eggs, at least one batch has probably already hatched. We have sprayed the rooms with "Pronto: bedbug and dust mite" spray several times... no luck. What should we do! If we move, we will take the bugs to the new place! should we bag up all the clothing, and wash them? Vacuum the house? I am desperate! We have been losing sleep to this infestation! more

I just built a new house that has a Study room with all wood all over(walls, floor and ceiling) and built-in shelves.The study room is on the right of the foyer when you first walk in and has french doors. on the left of the foyer is the dining room and to the front is the LR, kit and PR. I mainly use it for my computer, the kids have their own and my husband uses his laptop. My elderly mother visits often and has a hard time getting up and down the stairs, so she is really nagging me to put a day bed in (not a futon or sofa bed because she likes the mattress idea). I don't really mind but I'm just concerned about how a day bed is going to look with the Den being near the entrance of the house? My half sister in law was over and peed on my couch after I woke her up 2 times during the night to go to the bathroom. She was very rude one of the times and told me she didn't have to go and shoved me away! I went back to bed hoping she would wake up and use the bathroom like normal people do, and a few hours later my husband woke her up to go pee. She went that time. In the morning, I lifted the blanket and she had peed all over my futon! She hid the mess, didn't tell me- that is what made me furious! It is an $800 couch, my only couch, covered in pee. She didn't even say sorry to me. Apparently she apologized to my husband in private. I ended up cleaning the mess by myself and it was a 4 hour process that I'm sure is still not complete. She is 8 years old, OBESE ,school sent a report home on her weight, extremely bratty, she left shoes on the stairs and I tripped and fell while holding my baby, and her mother is never disciplining her, she has major behavioral issues!!!Tell me about it, a diet is wayyy in order. She usually eats more than I eat. I lived with her when I was pregnant. I gained a decent amount of weight (never even close to being obese) and while I was pregnant she ate twice as much as I ate (and I was feeding myself extra food to support my developing baby). She throws temper tantrums when she cannot have a second serving at dinner, she throws food and shoes at me, and my mother in law thinks it's terrible that I spank and smack her daughter. Yet my mother in law goes out every night after work with her boyfriend and neglects her children. She even leaves her 8 and 9 year old kids at home alone. They are totally prone to burning down their house. I'm afraid for all of them, yet I cannot stand them one bit! I should call children and youth on her... I really should. They deserve a parent who raises their kids, not some woman who cheated on their father after he went to prision.Hey flamers, you have no idea what this girl is like. She is so out of control from being raised by her brother and sister who are only a few years older than her. She even thinks she's a boy. I know the child has issues, but come on, the freaking kid is such a brat. You're telling me that if your relatives came over and HID the piss on your couch, that you wouldn't be mad? What if I didn't notice the pee and it dried up? What if i accidentally sat in it? She deliberately didn't tell anyone.... not even her sister who was sleeping on the couch right next to her. You can tell this girl to pick up her dirty clothes off the floor, so what does she do? She either throws them at you, or swings at you and screams. I have no compassion for monstrous children. My baby may have what we call accidents (puking, leaking through her diaper, etc.) but that's because she can only communicate through crying. This girl can talk and refuses not to have manners, plus she's so fat and disgusting!Her mom doesn't even try to potty train her. I suggested diapers but everyone else thinks that's cruel. It would definitely help the mess, but not the peeing issue. Her mom lets her wet the bed at her house, and she doesn't even discipline her. If I were her parent, I'd hold her face into the sheet and make her smell it! I have to deal with the smell, so why shouldn't she? more

Ok, I love bright colors first of all, and I also really like modern. However, I love earthy things too, such as stone fountains and such. I want my room to be very modern (futon bed, no dresser), kind of like a party room, and less like a bedroom. I love both styles, (earthy and modern) but I have no idea how to incorporate the two together if it can be done. Also, I have very little money. It's going to be done this summer if I can. Hello I was looking into getting a new bed and came across a Tatami bed. Here's where I need help though. My current bed (for the past 5 or so years) is actually a futon-sofa bed. After about 2 years the "matress" has gone flat in many areas and was giving me bad shoulder pains. I got one of those ~$100 foam covers but it seems that is going flat as well. The other morning I woke up at 6 to get a drink of water, 45 minutes later I woke up again on my shoulder and it was hurting. There's also a mini foot/headboard on it too, and I'm 6'2" 145lbs. so I have to sleep diagonal a lot or else my feet hurt in the morning. As far as the Tatami bed goes, are you supposed to just sleep on the tatami or are you supposed to put sheets/a matress on top of it? I keep seeing baby roaches in the same corner of my apartment and on my futon. I dont know where they are coming from but friends ask if they are inside the mattress. Resolved Question: Help! I am having major back issues that are driving me insane.?

I have had a recent MRI which shows no narrowing of the nerve channels. Been to so many orthopods, neurosurgeons, and physical therapists that it is making my head spin. The best I have gotten from them was to stretch my hamstrings more. I stretch a ridiculous amount for hamstrings and all other supporting muscles, do all my core strengthening exercises, heat daily, watch my posture and still have major issues (plus I am skinny). I am now to the point where I wake up nightly 2-3 times and have to stretch and walk around to make the pain subside enough to fall asleep. I have tried sleeping in a variety of recommended positions and have tried various surfaces (bed, futon, floor etc.). No luck. The lack of sleep is really getting to me. I don't think I have the funds to pursue expensive alternative treatment that won't be covered by insurance. Any advice would help. more

Resolved Question: Bedbugs. Possible to treat or call a professional? Suggestions?

Found some bedbugs making their home in a futon in my attic. No where else in the house and no one has been bitten. I'm paranoid about the size of the infestation since we don't know how big it is but I bagged up all clothing, bed coverings and pillows in the room anyway as a precaution. Washed all the blankets and about half of the clothes in hot water and dried on High heat as I saw to do on a website. Now what do I do? It's not a normal futon, it's a Klik Klax, so the mattress is covered by a fabric that is sewn all the way around the pad and the frame, so spraying inside would require me to cut the fabric off the bottom. Also we don't know where they came from, since they are no where else in the house I wonder if they were already inside when it was purchased (half a year ago). Suggestions? I'm afraid to even use it anymore.Yeah, thoughts of tossing it have crossed my mind. It's served as my bed though for the time we've had it, and I don't want to risk bringing a new mattress into the room if they are in the walls or carpets around it. more

Resolved Question: Wanting to redo my room at dads.?

I'm moving into my dads house for when I go to college. My room is over the 2 1/2 car garage. Its really long, and pretty wide. The walls slant about half way up, and the front of the room is a little oddly shaped. My main idea was to just divide the room up a little, the front part be the living room area, then a kitchen type area on the side, and the back have the "bedroom", the problem is theres only one entrance, no windows at all, and theres a fire exit in the floor thats covered with carpet (but able to open).
