Open Question: Do you have to re-make a futon bed each night?

Im re-doing my room and would love a futon but it seems like such a hassle to put sheets on every night to remove them in the morning, no? :P Is it not possible to use the futon cover as a base sheet? Any info you can provide would be appreciated :D Also, I found an affordable futon but there are mixed reviews about its comfort. Obviously people will have different interpretations of comfort, but is 4" too thin? Can I put a mattress topper on it followed by a cover to make it thicker? more

Hi, I've already researched the other answers on how to get your cat to stop peeing on the furniture, so please, I need different answers. My situation is a bit more complicated. First of all, my cat is already fixed (spayed). So that's not the issue. Here's the story: I have 2 female cats that get along wonderfully- both spayed. They are inside cats & we have a dog outside. One cat ran outside (my 3 year old left the screen door open too long) a couple days ago & my dog decided to rough her up. She's fine, but she did get a minor injury. I'm pretty sure my other cat is reacting to her friend not feeling well (by peeing on our futon). She's done it before when I've changed her food. Seems like she does it when she's upset, etc. Other than these few incidences, she's always used the litter box. As u can imagine, I've tried spraying the soiled areas with special spray (It's called Dumb Cat) and it's supposed to break up the enzymes, etc. I also put a waterproof mattress cover over the futon. So my question is, can anyone suggest any other products or sprays that work REALLY well? I need her to avoid the area. I've heard "feliway" is good. Should I thoroughly clean the area (again) with a better product & then spray the stuff that keeps cats OFF the area? Do you think she'll go find a new spot to pee on? I know, there's no way of knowing. I'd squirt her with the squirt bottle IF i was able to catch her doing it....I've only seen her do it once. I have 2 kids & I'm not always home, so it's kinda hard to stand around & watch her. Thank u in advance for suggestions!! Please, no rude comments from "dog people". I love dogs too. I also love my cats & want to fix the problem. Animals are not disposable. more

Resolved Question: Please help me! My cat will not stop pooping and peeing on EVERYTHING, what can I do?

I have had this cat for about three months. She was a tiny stray when I found her next to the dumpster and I nursed her back to health. I have another cat who is older and bigger and the older cat trained her how to use the litter box I think. Either way, she was using it, but she was only using it to poop. She wouldn't use it when she had to pee. She would pee on the linoleum or on the wood. So, I took her to the vet and she was diagnosed with a UTI. I gave her antibiotics and everything cleared up, but she still would not use the litter box to pee. So, I tried to retrain her by putting her in the bathroom with a litter box, her bed, her food and water, and some toys. She would still use the litter box to poop, but started using the bathrub to pee in. I don't know what to do and NOW she is peeing AND pooping outside of the litter box all the time. And it isn't just on the linoleum, it's everywhere. on couches, beds, floors, carpet, chairs. I have completely shampood the carpets to get up the smell so she won't smell it, I mop my floor every day and every time she pees, I clean out the litter box twice a day. I have picked up the poop and put it in the litter box to try to show her that this is where she goes. I have even tried that Kitten Attract litter that is supposed to make them want to use the litter box. I have no idea what to do, and I am sorry, but I am not one of those people who will stand by and clean up pee and poop fifteen times a day for the next fifteen years. If this doesn't stop, I have a friend that has a farm with lots of outside cats and I will have to bring her there and she will have to be an outside cat. She is very loving and very sweet and so I don't know if she would be happy there, but in the past three months I have spent over $600 in vet bills, medicine, multiple litter boxes and different types of cat litter to try to figure out what the problem is. She has ruined my futon cover, my comforter, and several quilts because I just cannot get the smell out. Does anybody know what I should do??? I am willing to try anything at this point. Could it be just a behavior problem having both cats in the house? My older cat doesn't ever pee or poop outside of the litter box. more

Resolved Question: Organization ideas for a bedroom with no closet?

My bedroom is the loft of my family's house. Therefore, it's quite large, but has no closet!! I have a tacky metal clothing rack from a drapery company (lol), but I have a lot of clothes so it's quite covered and doesn't look too bad. I have a lot of accessories, shoes, bags, etc. (I'm a girl, come on!), but no where to put my junk. So basically, right now the futon I have in my room beside my bed is my storage unit. Does anyone have any creative DIY storage ideas? I mean like cute boxes for magazines, something for jewellery, etc. People usually have closets, and they put big nice organizers in there, but since I'm someone who doesn't have a handy closet, I need ideas!! Please help :) more

Voting Question: Metal/punk or gothic bedroom decorating ideas?

I have no idea how I am going to ever make my room look good. The walls right now are bright pink, and at one end of my room the ceiling is very high and my room shape is awkward to put posters all the way up there. My carpet is pink. I have a tall white wardrobe and desk. I can't re-paint my room or get rid of the furniture. I have a futon bed so I can't put a comforter or anything on it. Basically the dresser, desk, futon and obnoxious big white floor air conditioner take up all the space in my pink and horrible room. I have some room for posters but I can't cover up a lot of the pink walls. Any ideas on how to make my pink room even remotely metal or goth!?!?My room looks like this because we did it when I was eight..Mark: I already said I can't paint the walls or anything. Resolved Question: Covering up a small raised cut and bruise above eye?

Ok. So I got a cut and bruise on my eye this morning when I bashed my head on the metal armrest of my futon (which I was sleeping on). the cut is raised off of the skin and bumpy and black because of blood underneath. Voting Question: I can't sleep because I am afraid of bugs?

Lastnight I went to sleep around 4am and I've been awake since 7am. I constantly have this feeling when I am laying down that bugs are crawling on me. I am constantly scratching and checking all the spots I scratch to see if there's a bug or a bug bite. Then I start seeing bugs in my mind, spiders especially, and I get so scared that I can't close my eyes anymore. Lastnight I even got up to lint roll my whole futon. Since I dont have a cover on it, I can't wash it. And I wash my blanket often. But I still constantly fear bugs. Especially since my friends told me the average person eats 8 spiders in their sleep throughout their life. So, not only am I constantly afraid of bugs crawling and biting me, I'm also scared that I'm going to eat one! It's totally getting in the way of sleep, and I want to know whether the doctor can fix my phobia or somehow put it under control? Or will the doc just give me sleeping pills? I don't really want sleeping pills. more

I found websites that were "googled and searched and looked at" on both of our home computers. at first, when I asked him what the search was he denied it and lied right to my face... I ignored him the rest of the night and he slept in other room as I couldn't sleep due to what my mind was telling me.. Next moring,while he was at work - I look on other computer and low and behold, find more sites and then found two searches for a escort in vegas... that is what set me off ...I left the house and wrote nasty notes all over the house... to make this long long story short - he did do this when I met him ( was on dating sites etc) and after we were dating seriously, I made him stop all his memberships and delete everything - all was fine...we got married and have been having a great time ( so I thought). We also have been TTC and that also has been an issue for past two years - gee, now I know why. I'm at a loss and don't know what to do ....when confronted with me knowing, he went into a "child-like" behavior throwing his hands up and shaking all over saying "I don't kow what to do...I don't know what to do"...and threw himself onto the futon in a child like temper - it was the most bizarre thing I've ever seen. I made him understand that he needs help as its a situation spiraling out of control and he agreed and has called like 5-6 different doctors/therapist to which only 2 have called him back...our health insurance gave him 2 names but only 1 in in service and yet hasn't called him back ( hoping the sessions are covered by insurance as can't afford $100 a week ) ..He was researching the subject and seems to think that he stems from when he first masterbated at age 18 ( he is now 48) and so thinks its just a quick fix to go and someone will help him and all be fine - he doesnt get that it will take time. I feel sick all the time (was hoping it was on acct of getting pregnant but its not) - I cry constantaly and to boot....nobody can know..Our family cannot know as they would die and friends cannot know as don't want them to find out...so I feel alone in this..He knows I can't be near him but he wants to try taking things slow ( hold hands and hug me when I get in from work , back rub ) all the little things that he now says makes him realize how much he truely loves me... Resolved Question: Help on 13 y/o renovating storage house to be room?

The two side walls are about 16 feet.I want to add two feet cutting into the shed on the backside.The front wall is about 12 feet.I know Im not going to be able to sheetrock it so I was going to go with a nice light colored wood paneling which I estimate will be about $125 or less.I already have electricity and Im gonna do something on my own with the roof even though its kind of low.I want to build a closet which will cost another $35 for paneling and I already have the 2x4's.I already have laminate floors that look like hardwood and the bathroom is in the main house.Its a 45ft walk to the main house.Im going to put some fans the will hang from the ceiling(not ceiling fans) in next summer.Ill probably lock it up in winter.We are going to use basically the existing electrical which is four outlets.I already have furniture and a closet rack.I plan to get $125 for my birthday next month and put that into a futon.I have the funds to do all of this and I hope its done by the beginning of October.I do have four windos but ill cover two or three inside and out.Eventually I will include the back shed as part of the house but for now considering my budget Im buying the cheap stuff. more

There is music playing in this room. The music is a track named 'Music Sounds Better with You', by the band 'Stardust'. The music is coming from a twenty year old Toshiba sound system linked up with a ten year old CD player, which is in turn all linked up to two twenty year old (but still very good) speakers. One speaker, the left one, is sitting on a wardrobe just to the left of the Toshiba sound system, the CD player, and the other speaker. The Toshiba sound system is sitting in the centre of a large cabinet/cupboard storage device which is otherwise filled with strange and forgotten books about everything from DIY to the way that spirits enter the netherworld, and several old cameras. Just to the right of the cabinet/cupboard is the right speaker, which is lying on its side in order to hold up a small 10" LCD television, which is linked up to a cheap and cheerful Freeview set top box. Continuing to the right, there is a table which is laiden with plants and such. There isn't anything to the right of that except for a wall, which is mainly covered with a large window. The top slit of the window is open, and a gentle warm breeze is sifting through it. After the wall with the window, another wall begins, parralel to the wall with the Toshiba on it. There's a Futon/Sofa arrangement here, in Futon bed form, an old radio that can pick up all wavelengths, and then a large cupboard filled with trousers, vests, boots, socks, Hawaiian shirts, and boxer pants. Then there's a door, another cupboard, and a fish tank on top of the cupboard that is also holding the left speaker. Filling most of the centre of the room is the Futon bed. The music is still playing. What should I do? more

Voting Question: Allergies! question about cleaning pet dander?

I'm kind of allergic to cats and their fur/dander. I got a futon mattress and pillows from a house with a cat. they had some cat hair and dander on them so I took the covers off them and washed them twice (cold water as instructed on the tags of the mattress covers and pillow covers). But I can still visibly see cat hair on them. Will I be allergic to them still? Is it possible that the stuff that causes the allergy (dander) got washed off and the remaining cat hairs can just be lint rolled off? more

Resolved Question: I am running out of ideas!?

Hi everyone, Thursday Jones has been urinating on my futon and I'm at my wit's end. I did ask this question a day or so ago and got an answer about mousetraps (which I'm afraid might hurt him, so I won't do), but I'm hoping other folks might have other ideas. I have gone so far as to email a local rescue to begin the process of putting TJ in the "owner foster" program, where he'll continue to live with me while the rescue lists him until a new owner is found. Here are the things I have tried to solve the couch-peeing problem: Veterinary exam and urinalysis -- Yes, he has a MILD UTI, and he did get an antibiotic injection for it. This was nearly 5 days ago. Since then, he's peed on the couch SIX more times! I thought surely I'd see a little improvement by now. Besides, this recent jig of him peeing on the couch hasn't been the only time. He's done this I'd say every couple of weeks for the past 2-4 months. He is neutered, and to my knowledge there are not any intact cats in the apartment complex. I've cleaned the couch with Nature's Miracle, hoping to remove any left-behind kitty smells. I have washed the decorative covers and replaced them SEVERAL times, cycling through my 3 covers. Since I put on the most recent clean futon cover, I found a plastic carpet-protector and laid it spiky-side up on the couch. A couple of days ago I left him here alone for a few hours with the carpet-protector on the couch, and came home to find a puddle on the plastic carpet runner! Clearly, having his paws poked by little plastic spikes does not bother him. In my 500 sq. ft apartment I have ONE cat and TWO litterboxes which are scooped EVERY day. The addition of the second litterbox just happened a couple of weeks ago after the LAST time he peed on the couch. One of the litterboxes is situated immediately next to the couch. It is a covered litterbox. The other litterbox is in an opposite corner, uncovered. I use Tidy Cats litter. I tried a feliway plug-in for about a month until the little oil canister ran out. I have not bothered to buy a refill, but I intend to go out today to get more feliway. (Should I get a diffuser refill or the feliway spray?) My veterinarian/boss has suggested possible behavioral medications -- i.e., buspirone or fluoxitine. I haven't done this yet but am seriously considering it. The past couple of days he's been staying in his "room" with litter box, food, water, toys, and bed when he's not supervised. It's the only way I can come home confident that he hasn't peed on anything. Is there ANYTHING ELSE I can do to get him to stop this?! I am exhausted and exasperated. more

Resolved Question: dry clean only futon cover help!?

I recently got a futon from my friend, who bought it from a garage sale... Something inside it stinks really bad. I have a heightened sense of smell due to partial hearing loss. Even tho I can hear again, I can still smell EVERYTHING nasty with in a mile I swear! My fiancé says he can't smell it, I only smell it while I'm on the futon, it smells like I'm sitting in a garbage pile. I can't stand it anymore! I removed the cover, it doesn't say what materials it is made from, but it does say dry clean only. I don't have time for that, I want to clean it now! I've suffered for 3 months already. What will happen if I machine wash but air dry? Do you think it will be ok? If all else fails, I can buy a new one for 100 and it wouldn't bother me a bit. Its a full size cover (77 x 54) more

For the last 3 years there's been something happening in my bedroom. For example one night I was lying asleep in my bed. It was fairly early in the day. Around 7:40ish because me and my parents had been moving into the new house and I was exhausted by moving boxes. Later on that night around 11:00 I woke up with a start only to feel something moving under my futon. At first I panicked because I thought I accidentally placed my futon on top of my cat Cupcake. So I moved it out of the way and notice there was nothing there. I slowly placed my futon back on the floor. At the time I was still sleepy and my head feel right back on my pillow. Two days later it happened again but instead of going back to sleep I got up and switched on my top room light. Mind you that we were still moving in and most of my stuff hadn't came yet so there weren't a lot of things in my room. Just the futon, my sword, and a box of clothes. Because my room was so small it was ALWAYS warm in there but I was freezing my ass off that night (I slept in thick knee-high socks that night in summer!) I was about to switch back off my light when I heard this strange sound. I can really explain it but it was a mix of groaning, deep laughing, and a one-person whisper. It's true that it did freak me out at first but my Dad was always into horror films and he usually laughed at them for some odd reason.... Anyway I went out into the hall way and put my ear up the restricted hallway. (Restricted meaning the parents hallway.) I heard nothing from there. Being an only child I never really had to worry about siblings making noise when I slept. But again I ignored this an fell asleep in my room again. That next night IT happened. It was the same thing sound and movement and it was colder than the other night. I ran to switch on my light. Again I didn't see anything. I got irritated and switched the light off. I think the time was around 2:00. When I laid back in my futon I noticed my sheet was slightly wet at the edge. I thought it was sweat or my own drool. I laid my head back on my pillow and it was wet too so I simply flipped it over and tried falling asleep on my back instead. But that when I felt something cold and clammy on my skin. I freaked an jumped up whilst pulling my sheet off to see what was it. There was nothing. At that point I didn't want to sleep in my room anymore so I got my futon and sheet and headed to the guest room. (But at the time it was being used as a storage room to old all of the things we didn't unpack yet.) I set my things down and slipped under my covers. I fell asleep. I don't know if I was dreaming of what but In my "dream" I was still in the guest room but only the boxes were gone and the place was completely empty. I started to sit up but I couldn't something heavy was keeping me down. It was almost like someone was sitting on me. In my struggling heard a eerie voice laugh like it was directed at me, I completely stopped moving when I felt a clod hand like (something) on my leg. The thing started to move into my inner thigh and upwards onto my crotch. I screamed hoping someone will come bu no one did. In a flash my night shit and boxers disappeared! I was completely naked!! I looked up and saw this thing. I was like a monster. (It stood tall at about 6 feet or something, it was all black and had purple eyes. It's hands were long and scaly. It also had tentacles! TENTACLES PEOPLE!!!! It was all slimy looking but still sorta bony.) It move forward and was almost standing on top of me yet he was weightless. That thing did horrible things to me that night. I tried telling my parents but there too busy and when I did tell them one time they said it was a bad dream. But I know that things real in some strange way. I need help on this. i am writing a novel and i am open to constructive criticism regarding the book to improve it. please rate 1-10 (1 being horrible 10 being magnificent) and explain why and how i can make it better thanks! It is eleven p.m. and Angela Simmons is straining her hazelish colored eyes at the glowing computer screen. She saves and exits her potential novel word document and shut off her computer. Swiveling around in her office chair she pauses to observe her 7 year old son Tj who is snoring softly on the futon covered in a Thomas the train blanket and clothed in blue footsie pajamas. Angela switches off the table lamp scoops her young son into her arms and carries him down the dark and narrow hallway. With her left hands he pushes open her son’s bedroom door and lays him on his yellow oak framed twin sized bed. She covers him in a quilt, kisses his forehead and trudges back to her own room. The television set is still on blaring some paid programming show. Eddy is on his side of the bed snoring aggressively. Angela sighs opens her dresser and fishes around for a pajama top. She selects a blue oversized tank top with yellow ducklings on it. She turns the TV set off and slides into bed next to her husband. “Angie?” Eddy grumbles opening a blood shot eye. “Yeah?” Angie replied turning over to face him. “I love you…” Eddy mumbles before falling back asleep. Angie smiles, falls back on her pillow, places Eddy’s fat hairy arm around her waist and drifts into a somewhat peaceful slumber. The next morning Angela awoke with an unshakably chipper spirit, she allows herself to be carefree and even to ignore the bags under her eyes, her love handles and chaffed lips when she glanced in the mirror. She can hear the theme song to Sponge Bob square pants blaring in the living room, she comes to a conclusion that Tj is up. Angela pulls on a red robe over her petite 5’1 126 pound frame and casually walks out into the sun bathed living room. Tj is on the couch eyes glued to the TV screen whilst his uncle Micah Is seated at the kitchen table reading the comic strips and humming the melody of an R&B song that is playing on the radio placed upon the windowsill beside him. “Where’s crystal?” she asks. Clearing a few dishes from the sink. “Sleep,”” Micah answers briefly looking up from the newspaper. “You ain't worried bout nothin but them comics, huh Micah?” Angela asks slightly annoyed, “Nah sis, just what I do in my mean time.” “You ain't got no mean time. How bout you use that newspaper to find a job,” Angela retorts running the faucet over a macaroni incrusted plate. “Ay sis get off my back!” “Get out my house.” Micah is quiet after that. I have 3 cats and recently one has starting to urinate on my futon. I have caught her once before so I know which one it is. I clean the litter boxes at least once a day and have more than one in different areas of the house. I have tried putting one right next to the futon in hopes that she will use it instead. All are fixed and of various ages. They all get along very well and play together a lot.
