Futon Frame Questions and Answers
Open Question: Years ago i hurt my tailbone (didn't seek help), and now it's painful in dance class...help?
So years ago when i was in high school I plopped down hard on a wooden futon frame and my tailbone was in pain for...it felt like forever, maybe quite a few months to a year. I never saw a doctor or asked around (it just didn't occur to me, i felt like i just had to wait it out because that's what anyone would tell me) so i just let it go. I've noticed since i started taking dance class that if i put pressure on it, it hurts. No one else seems to have this problem. I noticed when we did an exercise where we sat down with out legs out ahead of us, kept leaning back without laying on the ground at the same time as raising our legs high a few inches off the ground. So all of our natural pressure would be on the butt/tailbone. No one seemed to have issues with this but it really hurt my tailbone. Could it be due to the old tailbone thing? And what does it mean, what could have happened to my tailbone and can i do anything about it now? If not, then what can i do to reduce pain when i need to put pressure on it for something? Just..what could it have been and what can i do?
I have no insurance right now
thanks

Hello. My metal futon frame is broken. The main metal support that holds up the middle of the seat cushion has broken in half. so now my futon is still usable but sags in the middle. It looks as though this piece had been welded together originally but has come apart.
Can anyone tell me a way to fix this? I thought of just duct taping it to try fix it. Thanks!I wanted to add that the metal support is a fairly thin and round beam that runs all the way across the length of the futon.

moreResolved Question: Re-decorating 13 year old daughters room-need advice?
My 13 year old daughter is at sleep away camp for the next two and a half weeks, and I want to completely re-decorate her room for her as a surprise for when she comes back. She's been wanting to re-decorate it for a while, and I just haven't had the time and I think this would be a really rockin' surprise for when she gets back.
So anyway, she's not a tomboy, but not a girly girl either. She's into sports and doesn't mind getting dirty, but also loves going shopping and fashion. She loves blues, greens and browns. I was thinking that I could paint two of her walls tiffany blue, and the other two a lighter chocolate brown. Her room is about 13 1/2x12 feet. When we bought the house, the longer wall (13 1/2 foot) in her room had two closets that went back about 2 feet, each 6 feet long, so she had a 12x2 foot closet. What 13 year old needs a 12x2 foot closet?! So we sealed up the middle, kept one as a closet, and took the doors off the other and turned it into a book nook type thing. Right now she has a book case, a big puffy chair and a tack board in it, with a curtain hanging up the divide it from the other part of the room.
I was thinking that I could take all that out, and put a futon in it. Then I could put 6 or 7 of the small circular bubble mirrors above it. How does that sound? I'm not to worried about the arrangement of the furniture, as much as what I buy. Because I can always re-arrange the furniture if she doesn't like it, but I can't replace it.
So this is the furniture, decor and bedding I was thinking abut:

But I'm worried the black won't go with the tiffany blue and light chocolate brown. What do you think?)
Desk Chair: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Flash-Furniture-Mesh-Desk-Chair-White-With-Chrome-Base/13006142
Rug: I couldn't find one I like, but I was just thinking either a simple beige, an off-white, or a cream colored shag rug would look nice.
Curtains: I'm just going to keep the same plain white ones from Pottery Barn Teen that she already has. I think that they'll look fine.
So what do you think? If you were a 13 year old girl who like sports, shopping, blue, green and brown would you want this room? Be honest, I don't want to redo it and have her hate it. Reply fast, I need to know soon! Thanks!

I have been having a sore tailbone for about a month now, and I do know why. I recently got a new futon mattress which is thicker than the last one, but it feels more airy. It's hard to explain. The point is, I can feel the bars through the mattress when i do anything on it...sleep, lay down, sit, stand, etc. and I think that that is why I am having this problem. I had no injury that would lead to it so it HAS to be this damn futon/futon mattress. The frame itself is about a year old but like I have said, this mattress is about a month old, same as my tailbone problem. I know what kind of things I can do to stop it like pain relievers and soaking, but why even try that when the pain is just going to come back from sleeping on it and using it everyday. There is no other way to replace the mattress and we don't have the financial means to buy a better futon or buy a bed, so what should I do? If I keep sleeping on it, will my tailbone become severly damaged or anything like that? My dad did buy the cheapest futon frame in the whole store too, so that can also be a contributing factor. Here's a picture of the frame...Thanks :)https://www.boscovs.com/wcsstore/boscovs/images/store/product/images/51679947654029.jpgAlso, I cannot return the mattress because neighbor had given it to me. I love futons and have a small room so if I get a bed then it will leave me no free space :( I also like the avalibility of having a couch in the day, and bed at night. I just think we should have invested into a couple hundred dollar futon because that's what I've read. https://www.boscovs.com/wcsstore/boscovs/images/store/product/images/51679947654029.jpg <--- correct picture

I am redoing my room in the basement, and I am going to have a black and white bed spread, dark brown furniture, a white futon couch, and light brown walls. On the walls I will put a bunch of decorations like ribbon boards, picture frames, mirrors, etc. I want to put some fun colored pillows on the bed and on the futon, but I cant decide what I like best:
Option #1:
-Pink and red w/ brown and black. Above the futon I would have paper lanterns, probably black and white in case I switch the colors around.
Option #2:
-Blue and purple w/ black and brown, and the same lanterns above the futon.
Option #3:
-Yellow and another color. Yellow is my favorite color, but I dont know what to put with it. Any suggestions? Same lanterns above the futon.
Can you please tell me what you think of each option?
Thanks!! :)
moreResolved Question: So, the bedframe is too big?
My fiancee and I recently moved in together and he had a futon. The futon worked for a while until it bent and was unusable. So we had to find a frame, boxspring, and matress all on a budget. And I mean B U D G E T. We are TIGHT on money... Im not going into details on that. So we got a 44 dollar universtal type frame from Value City. It says it can be a twin to a king frame. The thing is so cheap it didnt even come with instructions, just a diagram pitcture thing. There are three sizes. A twin/full. A twin/full/queen. And a king/cal king. The ONLY difference between the first two is the middle of the queen has a bar going down. The size for the frame though is the same for a twin, a double and a queen. We have a double bed, the same size as the futon we had. After we got the frame set up and put the boxspring and mattress on the bed, we realized something. The frame is a little further from the side of the bed. About three inches further. I assume its because it could also fit a queen? We got the matress and frame pushed up against the wall - where my fiancee sleeps - and so it hangs on the left side - where I sleep - and my fiancee is scared Im going to hurt myself waking up to pee or something in the morning cause Im short. We cant fit the bed to where its not hanging out on my end, cause then the matress is away from the wall and fiancee will probably roll off and hurt himself.
What are we supposed to do? There is no possible way we could afford even the cheapest frame right now. We have to save the rest of what we have for rent and utilities and will be lucky if we have enough left. The twin/full notches are the same as the queen notches. I could take picture of the box if needed. Both the twin/full diagram and twin/full/queen diagram use Fig. B to show you exactly where the notches go.
moreVoting Question: Trying to redecorate my room?
I'm a 16 year old female, and I want to redecorate my room. I love zebra print, but I think its a little too child-ish for my room, although my mother and I were thinking about painting the bottom half of the wall black, and the top half white, and then an 8" strip of zebra print wallpaper in the middle, with 3" stripes bordering the wallpaper, but I'm not sure which color, either purple, pink, lime green, or turquoise. I want a futon, and we found one, and the frame on it is black. I wanted to get a zebra print comforter, with sheets the color of whatever color stripe I decided on. I also plan on accessorizing with black and white.
Would this look good? If not, how should I redecorate?

moreVoting Question: How long would you give this marriage to last after reading these circumstances?
My good friend's daughter is doing something I consider to be, at best, extremely rash, if not outright stupid.
I would like for you to give what you think or the odds are of success and failure for this marriage. (ex. 70% fail - 30 succeed OR 20% fail - 80% succeed) Just like that... AND ALSO, could you place a time frame on these odds? (60%/40% failure/success, with failure happening in the first 3 years)
OK, the woman in question, my friends daughter is 36 years old. She was married for 8 years to her husband and they had 3 children together in that time. I'm sure their marriage was not perfect but I am very sure my friend would tell me if he knew of any huge, typical, marriage ending problems, in their marriage.
After the 8 years of marriage and 3 kids she apparently became a little bit disenchanted with the marriage, at least enough to start cruising online looking to meet someone new. She went to all of the regular sites (match.com, e-harmony.com) and some local sites but didn't really get any responses. At that time she was being honest about being married while she was looking for someone.
Then she changed her MO and started telling men that responded to her ads to saying that she was separated (which was of course quite a surprise to her husband at the time...since he still lived in the house, had no idea of these happenings, slept next to his wife every night, worked every day and was all in all a good husband from what I understand)
Finally! On craigslist.com, of ALL places, (I bought a used futon once on craigslist but I didn't know there were dating ads there...) she gets a response from a man. She told him she was separated and that her husband lived elsewhere.
He said that he was also separated BUT he and his wife still lived in the same home, just not sharing the same bedroom. They were trying to sell their home and neither could afford to move elsewhere until the house sold...
It appears that HE was being honest actually. This new man and my friend's daughter (who I will call "Polly" and I will call the new man, Don from now on for convenience sake) carried on an "email relationship" for about 3 or 4 weeks and finally made plans to meet.
The two people met finally without Polly's husband knowing anything was wrong. She lied and said she was meeting a friend of hers for lunch. Then after their initial meeting she called him on his cell about an hour later, asked Don if he could get away to meet her in a secluded park later that evening. She told her husband, still unsuspecting, that she had to do some work for her dad, who has his own business. That was not unusual so the husband (we will call him Karl from now on) said, "fine."
Polly came back later that evening. The next day Karl went to the computer to check his email and he found Polly's newly made up email address with the email account still open on accident. Karl started to read the emails and of course was crushed.
He confronts Polly immediately, Polly says she is going to pursue this relationship with the Don. Karl, who was blindsided, realizes that he can't allow his wife to give another man a chance while he waits in the wings to see how it goes... So, it happened that Karl had a business trip coming up about a week later. He suffers through the week and then is gone overseas on business for 3 weeks.
He comes back from his trip to find out that the new relationship has progressed extremely quickly. In fact, the day that he left the country Polly met Karl at Chuckie Cheese and Polly brought their 3 children along!!! (After only having met Don herself two times on her own she is mixing their kids in with this guy.)
Karl moves out of the house, he told Polly her that he will always love her but he just can't stay if that is the way she is going to conduct her life. He moves into a friend's house who is on a sabbatical so the house is empty but furnished, and he waits to see what happens with this mess. In about 3 months Polly files for divorce from Karl.
In the meantime Karl hires a private investigator to look into the background of this stranger named Don from craigslist to make sure he is not a danger to his children or to his wife. He spent nearly $1000 for a fairly extensive background and basically every possible kind of check a P.I. can do, and there is nothing negative on this Don's record.
However, it turns out that one month after having actually met Polly, Don actually went and filed for divorce. The PI found out that he had been married once before so he was actually ending HIS second marriage to quickly (and apparently) move on to his 3rd marriage.
So my poor friend's son Karl, who is like a son to me too by the way, is trying to hold together what is left of his first marriage while Don files for divorce from his second wife, with plans to marry a third!
So Don filed fo

I have a 6" full cotton futon couch, metal frame, I've owned for about 10 years now.
(This appears to be it; http://www.mercantila.com/p/elite-futon-round-arm-metal-futon)
Just the other day, I woke up to a futon couch completely soaked through (dripping underneath) by, what I assume is, water (I have yet to find the source either ... it's really bugging me. Roommate denies it, but I found no other source for it). I've been running a fan on it, in hopes to dry it out, but I have a feeling that may not be working ... it's a rather thick futon, and my place is starting to smell musky.
Is the couch ruined? I know so little about furniture dmg. But, I'm guessing, if it's smelling musky, it's most likely ruined.

It is eleven p.m. and Angela Simmons is straining her hazelish colored eyes at the glowing computer screen. She saves and exits her potential novel word document and shut off her computer. Swiveling around in her office chair she pauses to observe her 7 year old son Tj who is snoring softly on the futon covered in a Thomas the train blanket and clothed in blue footsie pajamas. Angela switches off the table lamp scoops her young son into her arms and carries him down the dark and narrow hallway. With her left hands he pushes open her son’s bedroom door and lays him on his yellow oak framed twin sized bed. She covers him in a quilt, kisses his forehead and trudges back to her own room. The television set is still on blaring some paid programming show. Eddy is on his side of the bed snoring aggressively. Angela sighs opens her dresser and fishes around for a pajama top. She selects a blue oversized tank top with yellow ducklings on it. She turns the TV set off and slides into bed next to her husband.
“Angie?” Eddy grumbles opening a blood shot eye.
“Yeah?” Angie replied turning over to face him.
“I love you…” Eddy mumbles before falling back asleep.
Angie smiles, falls back on her pillow, places Eddy’s fat hairy arm around her waist and drifts into a somewhat peaceful slumber.
The next morning Angela awoke with an unshakably chipper spirit, she allows herself to be carefree and even to ignore the bags under her eyes, her love handles and chaffed lips when she glanced in the mirror. She can hear the theme song to Sponge Bob square pants blaring in the living room, she comes to a conclusion that Tj is up. Angela pulls on a red robe over her petite 5’1 126 pound frame and casually walks out into the sun bathed living room. Tj is on the couch eyes glued to the TV screen whilst his uncle Micah Is seated at the kitchen table reading the comic strips and humming the melody of an R&B song that is playing on the radio placed upon the windowsill beside him.
“Where’s crystal?” she asks. Clearing a few dishes from the sink.
“Sleep,”” Micah answers briefly looking up from the newspaper.
“You ain't worried bout nothin but them comics, huh Micah?” Angela asks slightly annoyed,
“Nah sis, just what I do in my mean time.”
“You ain't got no mean time. How bout you use that newspaper to find a job,” Angela retorts running the faucet over a macaroni incrusted plate.
“Ay sis get off my back!”
“Get out my house.”
Micah is quiet after that. The door to Micah’s bedroom swings open and a grungy looking Crystal waddles out.
“Morning June bug,” jokes Angela.
Crystal frowns, and hobbles to the windowsill, where like an old woman; she slowly lowers herself to a sitting position. “Ain't no good morning for me,” she says shifting her weight.
She proudly rubs her bulging belly staring at her unborn baby girl.
“Come feel Micah, she kicking to the song!” a wide smile spreads across her dark chocolate face as Micah rushes to feel her tummy.

moreVoting Question: Is my house haunted? My fan and bed mysterious broke and my mirror just shattered...?
I'm a completely rational and realistic person...but the things going on lately are leaving me very concerned. All of a sudden my fan broke (the metal shaft was bent)...no one touched it. It happened over night. Then last night, the metal frame of my futon (which I use as a bed) was bent. The legs looked liked some took a hammer to them and one side of the bed completely came apart. This literally happened between the time I left the house and went out with some friends, then came back home and noticed my bed was messed up and uneven. Then, minutes ago, I was trying to fix my bed when I heard something shatter. Something was flung at mirror when my back was turned and my full length mirror shattered into pieces. The shards flew across the room and I was surprised none hit me. No one lives in this house besides me and my grandpa. He's in his 60s and did not mess my stuff up. People have always claimed this house was haunted because you can hear footsteps/creaks late at night and scratching on walls and sometimes lights turn on/off and the water facet turns on by itself...but I just assume it's because the house is old, however nothing physical like this has happened before. Can ANYONE offer an explanation for this?Actually, Ashley, it's very strange you say that, because all the weird physical activity began after I moved an old dresser into my bedroom because I needed more spaces for my clothes. It was the garage for like 20 years.

first off, i am used to using a traditional spring bed, i am not into those fancy space age beds.
the mattress i am getting is more expensive than the typical futon mattress. i used to sleep on a bed but decided to get a futon.
my concern is that just because it feels comfortable when i tried it at the store , how will it be in the long run? i will get it in a couple of days and there is a 30 day return policy. i also picked the less expensive futon frame with the more expensive mattress, so i dont know if the cheap bed frame will cause discomfort.

Been renting rooms for years, and now I'm finally ready to get my own little place. I'm trying to save space and money basically. I'd like for there to be a comfortable place for people to sit when they visit. I'd prefer not to have a mattress and frame as that would require a lot of space and its not very versatile and cant be moved much. I also dont want something really uncomfortable. I've slept on air beds and floors for years, but I'm not trying to go that route.
I only have a bedroom, kitchen, and small bathroom. My bedroom would have to double as a living room basically.

I got a futon at Walmart which I'm sure most of you will say thats the problem right there haha.
The things not even a year old, I lost the receipt, and already its falling apart. To me thats not too safe cuz me and my girl were just sitting there and perhaps we put too much pressure against it but it went right back. The screws went right through the frame of the backrest,The frame itself is starting to break, its got cheesy metal bars for supports and most of them are breaking off. Any suggestions on what I should do? Weight is not a factor, the thing is supposed to support like 400 pounds or something, me and her weight 130 each so thats not even close to the max weight.
Me and my buddy put it together, using actual tools and not the cheesy wrench they give you to put it together with, everything was tight, but now everythings loosening up and as for the back rest not much can be done about that as the main suport bars are now warped.
- I dont have the receipt
- I dont have the box it came in
Should I contact Walmart directly and try to request my money back? I feel a replacement unit wouldnt be any better.
I even spent the extra money the first time and got the best one they had with the wood arms and sides.

moreResolved Question: After all that, and my back still hurts?
Okay.
My back has been hurting these last few nights which has lead me to take my mattress pad off, fold it in half and camp on my floor for the rest of the night, that of corse after a fistful of pills. It works enough that I sleep until its time for classes.
So yesterday, I disassembled my bed, which was a futon frame, it was starting to fold in the middle causing me to taco in the middle. Which I assumed was the problem. Now bed on floor, bed is actually a curiously heavy futon mattress. With a foam mattress pad. It still curves slightly in the middle, but after the big move and disassemble, I had an amazing nap on it. It seems this back pain only happens at night. Its seldom in my lower back but is in my upper back across my shoulders and down. Also, the dog could be assisting in funny sleep positions, he seems to think that the bed is his.
How do I make this better? I would really like to sleep.Thank you for the suggestions - but the option to get a bed is minimal. Unless a) one is donated (aka free) b) its delivered... highly unlikely. I fall under the happy to have a roof over my head, and eat once a day for an expensive college education.
I will look into yoga, my mom raves about it.
I also do riding, which causes me to fall into a state of unconsciousness after.. which is nice. (breaking in a young horse, lots of up and down. Haven't been thrown yet though)

moreVoting Question: Building a Custom Couch Frame. Wood work?
Hey guys, I've been asked to build a custom couch frame. We have a futon that's rather falling apart and no one ever folds it out so I've been asked to build a wood frame that doesn't fold out. Just wondering if there are any good websites I can review to get some ideas. The one we have now is a metal framed one. It sits rather low as well thats another thing they want me to change on the wood one.I just really need a base or something something i can go off of. Im pretty good at making my own off a base.
moreVoting Question: How should I decorate my room?
Okay, so I have quite a large room, with quite a lot of furniture, including
wardrobe which is fixed onto the wall so I can't move it
single bed
futon
bookshelf
corner desk (triangle)
storage cabinets, which takes up a lot of room so I was planning on down-sizing them.
I have a lot of stuff so I need a way of storing it without it taking up too much room.
I also have loads of posters which have really grown on me (I originally put them up to make my room more interesting because they were quite boring) and around 3 framed pictures.
I really wanted some wallpaper but 1. They are quite big walls and 2. I don't want to make my room look too busy with posters/pictures AND wallpaper.
I pretty much have a plum/berry/dull gold kind of colour scheme so I need something that will suit that.
If you could give me any suggestions I would really appreciate it :)
Thanks x

moreResolved Question: Where in St. Louis, MO can I buy a kotatsu table or something like it?
A kotatsu is a small table and short table. A futon is draped over the frame before setting the table's surface on top. There is a heater under the table, and the futon keeps the heat under the table. You can sit on the floor with your feet under the futon and enjoy the warmth in winter months.
Is there any place in St. Louis (or around the St. Louis area, including Illinois) where I can buy something like that?

moreVoting Question: Can you put tatami mats on a futon frame?
I am setting up a guest room, but since it's also doubling as a playroom, I need to get something fold-able that would also serve as something to sit on.
The main issue I'm having is that my traditional Asian parents like to sleep on a hard surface. I was thinking of getting a futon (frame and mattress) as well as tatami mats. When my parents visit, I'd pull off the mattress and put the tatami mats on the frame. Then for any other guests, we can use the mattress. Putting the tatami mats on the frame also prevents my elderly parents from having to get up and down from the floor.
Ideally I want something like this but fold-able:
http://www.orientalfurniture.com/oriental-furniture/TATAMI-BED-WAL.html
In that picture, it looks like the tatami mats just rest on top of a frame that has wood slats for support - which basically is what a futon frame is.
I'm just worried about whether it would be stable or if there is something about tatami mats that you shouldn't put it on a futon frame.

I cant seem to figure out how on earth to raise it from the bed to sofa..it takes 2 people..and that can't be right. i want to be able to do this quickly, not take forever. if this helps: the way u get it down is pull the bottom frame up and it slowly falls down. to get it up with two people, we have been going one behind the bed and one in front and pushing it up, then pushing the mattress in. but I need to know how to get it up solo! ha ha. moreResolved Question: Are these bed bugs? HELP PLEASE?
I just brought a new futon from IKEA that I lied out on my bed frame in my apartment. The sheets I put on it has been washed as well. One or two days later, I've noticed about five bug-like bites on my right leg and two small ones on my left shoulder. Some are small, some are bigger in size. Could these be bed bugs? Even though I just brought a NEW futon? (It came in wrapped in plastic). : ( I'm currently washing my sheets now, but what should I do ?
