Futon Mattress In Place Questions and Answers

Resolved Question: Why do you think my sister-in-law didn't want to stay at our place?

I told my sister-in-law that she could stay at our two bedroom apartment. Our second room doesn’t have a bed, but she could bring a blow up mattress. The second bathroom is attached to the second bathroom very convent. My sister-in-law, her husband and daughter decided to stay with my brother-in-law that lives in two bedroom duplex with one bathroom. My bother-in-law has a small cramping futon and his place is a mess. My sister-in-law said that are staying over at the bother-in-laws place is because it is closer to my mother-in-laws. My brother-in-law place is the same distance as our place. I think the reason they didn’t want to stay was because I am 16 weeks pregnant and my sister-in-law had two miscarriages this year. What do you think? more

Resolved Question: I "gave" my friend a mattress, could I ask for it back?

My friend was moving into an apartment, so I told him he could use my futon since he didn't have a mattress and bed. He has since moved to another apartment and has bought a new full size bed. I can't recall if I said he could have it or if I offered to let him use it. I didn't expect to need it back, so I guess we were both under the impression that he could keep it for a long time? Since I am moving places soon, I asked him if I could use the futon for a couple of weeks before I secure an actual bed. I plan on asking another friend to help me transport it to my new place. The thing is my friend wants the futon back after I get an actual bed because he wants to use it for couch surfers (though he has an actual couch). It sort of irked me the way he phrased his response, "Sure, I use it for couch surfers so I would like it back." I guess I still assume that I am the rightful owner even though he is in possession of it. And he obviously thinks the futon is his. I guess my question boils down to whether or not I am being an Indian giver? And am I responsible for transporting the futon back to him after I am done using it? more

Resolved Question: I love my futon but my back is sore from the mattress - what to do?

It came with one of those cotton batting mattresses made in china - the kind that turns to rock when you lie on it. I don't know if a foam mattress will fold properly when the futon is in 'sofa' mode. Also I don't want to spend alot of money - the futon and mattress together were a bargain ( got it used for sixty dollars). Anyone out there have an idea to make the futon a more comfortable place to sleep? Thanks! more

Resolved Question: How to keep an air mattress from slipping?

as of now i sleep on an air mattress thats on top of a futon (long story short, the springs are awful and jab me in the back) but- the air matress slides almost completely off the bed during the night. i need ideas for a solution that would keep the mattress in place. ideas? (: more

Resolved Question: Would plywood make a futon more comfortable?

People always complain about feeling the bars on a metal futon. In a week or so, I will loose a bed; but I have still have my futon. I was thinking of putting the futon in my bedroom, place plywood between the bars and leave the mattress on top. Would that solve the metal bars problem? or should i just use a memory form topper? But if i do that, can i leave it on there when it becomes couch form? Sigh... Slightly Befuddled - Glow more

Resolved Question: Why won't my parents let my boyfriend sleepover at my house?

I'm 17, my boyfriend is almost 19, I live with my parents still, he lives in an apartment on the other side of the city. Recently, my parents decided it would be okay if I slept over at my boyfriend's apartment occasionally, which is awesome. They won't, however, allow him to sleep over at my house. Why, you ask? The only reason my mom gave me was " Not in this house." She knows I'm sexually active, and she knows that I've had sex in the house, so I can't see how she'd be worried about that. I've also suggested me and my boyfriend could sleep in separate beds (I have a futon mattress next to my bed, so we'd still be in the same room), but she wouldn't have any of it. I'm not complaining, exactly, because I know I can just sleepover at his place if needs be. But I really don't understand how my mom can be okay with me going miles away to sleep with my boyfriend, but it's not okay for him to stay here. more

Resolved Question: How can I buy or make a cheaper priced Japanese futon on America's North Eastern coast?

I'm a college student living in a relatively small room and need to conserve space. I am looking for a Japanese futon mattress (which to my knowledge is also known as a shiki futon) that won't cost me an arm and a leg*. Does anyone know a place where I can acquire one? My second option is to make one, but I do not know how, so if you have any helpful tips for this please send them my way! Resolved Question: Bed Bugs - Legal Action against Roommate?

Okay I will try to summarize as best I can. I live on the first floor of a three family house. The landlord and his family (6 people total) live upstairs, they occupy the second and third floor. My floor has two bedrooms that a close friend of mine and I shared until March of 2009. I finally had another roommate move in at the end of May. By the end of June I started seeing bug bites on my ankles and legs. I didn't think too much of it at first, It would only be two or three of them, and not every night. It was summer, there are mosquitoes and the house I live in is older, strange bugs make appearances from time to time. By the end of July however I noticed more of them, and on the day I woke up w/more than a dozen bites I started researching. Bed Bugs came up in most searches, along w/fleas and chiggers. The other two are easily eliminated so I focused on the bed bugs. I couldn't however find any sign of them in my room the way that any of the sites I went to said to check for them. After a week of this I figured I must be overreacting. I went away for the second week of August and the bites pretty much stopped though, so my suspicions arose again, and by the end of that next week after vacation I finally spotted one next to my pillow in the early morning hours. I freaked of course. I notified my landlord that day who had his wife contact an exterminator immediately. They were unable to come out for a full week but I was just glad something was in the works. When I spoke to my roommate however that night, to ask him if he'd gotten any bug bites lately, his reply was 'oh yeah, I'd been meaning to ask you about that,' and went on to say he thought it might be something from my birds. (I have 4 conures, I'm meticulous w/their cages and sweeping/vacuuming of the area they're in. My oldest one is almost 14 years old and I've had them long enough to feel confident I'd recognize something this major w/them.) Needless to say I was a bit insulted but I didn't want to start anything, I just wanted the problem taken care of. I assured him it did not come from the birds, and that it was in fact bed bugs. We both started trying to think of where they would have come in. Neither of us have had any visitors from out of town over w/the exception of my mother, who doesn't have bed bugs and thankfully still doesn't even after her stay. I went away once but the friends I shared the hotel room with didn't have them, nor did the hotel as far as I know, since our bags were all in the same place during our stay how could I be the only one to bring them back? My roommate had gone away for a weekend but also to a friend's house, who doesn't have bed bugs. It wasn't until later in the week I realized the bites had started appearing very shortly after my roommate first moved in. He of course said no he didn't bring them or his last roommates would have called him or something. But he used to talk of how dirty they were and had people over all the time from different areas, some of them shady. I know bed bugs aren't only around dirty people, it can happen in the cleanest environment, but the way he spoke of them I could believe they'd be of the mindset that they wouldn't mind living with it. When the exterminators finally came however they confirmed that the infestation was mainly in his bedroom, the closet in particular was inundated w/them, and my bedroom was only the beginnings of an infestation, the spillover I suppose, since his had grown so large. Even as they stood there in front of my landlord, my roommate and myself and told us this news, he still denied it and blamed it on his brand new futon that came sealed and boxed from Ikea. Now okay sure I know there are stories of people getting them in store bought mattresses that aren't as new as advertised...but really? I just find it hard to believe in this case. I also still wonder how come he never once asked me about the bites. He HAD to have been getting them long long before I did, and only said he had them when I brought it up to him. If he truly believed they were from me and not him why would he not come say something immediately? Now for as far as the process getting ready for the spraying, I had double bagged up all my clothes, emptied my drawers, pulled all sheets, blankets, pillow cases, etc... off the bed, pulled the curtains down ...all of this in double bags. Vacuumed several times - the whole house (w/the exception of his room, thru all of this that's all I've ever asked him to take care of) Everything was washed and dried on the highest heat settings. My roommate did none of this, he carried his clothes out in open bins and walked it to the laundromat around the corner. Every three days since the first spraying - which was on September 2nd - I've vacuumed the entire house, pulling furniture away from walls and going under and around everything, into couch cushions, using the extension for base boardsBugs are still not gone, the exterminators are saying it has to be on our end, either we're bringing them in still or doing our own home remedy, which would void the warranty, coincidentally, and how do you prove you didn't? Also my roommate has just told me his retail job of 1 and a half months is transferring him...so he's gone by December 1st. We split the cost of the treatments so far, $500 each...but if it ends up we need a different exterminator I will be stuck paying more...is there any way I can legally have him held responsible for this w/the exterminators being able to confirm the major infestation was in his room and the first time the bites started appearing coinciding w/his moving in? more

Voting Question: how do i know if i have bed bugs? please help!!?

i am the cleanest person and i know this doesn't matter though..a couple weeks ago i signed a lease for an apartment that turned out to be infested with bed bugs. i quickly got out of it and had my stuff there for only about 4 or 5 hours before moving it all out again. i have hot steamed my futon mattress and all of my clothes and dried many of my clothes on high in my dryer. i have also gone through everything i own and threw out many things like cardboard boxes and paper products. i even went over all my furniture with a toothbrush and amonia!!! now i am staying with my parents until i find another place and i spotted something that looked similar to what i saw at the other place. i don't know what to do. i read that bed bugs only get to a dark brown colour and this was black but had the same ridges but was more long than oval...i wish i was able to take a good enough picture but it won't show up. it was about a quarter to a fifth of an inch long but was not a rolly polly bug. please help! i thought i did everything to prevent them :-( more

Resolved Question: Laid off and now what?

I have been laid off. Am single and have found a small part time job where I can earn no more than about $800/month. The place where I am staying I pay a rent of $700 which includes all utilities, food and laundry bills. I have a single room and shared facilities (bathroom, kitchen). I found a new place to live in where the rent is $500/month but food and cable is extra. It would include sharing a two bedroom place with a university student whom I do not know at all. Should I move into this new place ($500 rent) and save money or continue to live in my old place? I will also need to buy some furniture (table,2-3 chairs, futon, mattress) since the current place provides me with these facilities. I have no qualms about buying cheap second hand stuff on craigslist or Salvation Army. How much will all this cost? I will leave the town after 8-9 months and move to Europe where I will start a professional course. So that's the other thing to bear in mind while making my decision. Finally the living environment in my current place is getting very stressful with quarreling neighbours, noise etc. I feel depressed living here at times. What should I do? more

Resolved Question: I need ideas for a new bedroom design!?

So I'm currently in the process of redoing my entire bedroom meaning new bed and everything. I really like the concept/look of the futon/platform beds however I have no idea where to go to actually purchase one? I'm in the DC area and I'm trying to find a few upscale places that sell them so I can actually take a look at them in real life. I'm not looking at mattress discounters ew. So if anyone can find me a few links to websites or better yet upscale stores that have them that would be greatly appreciated! more

Resolved Question: Removing smoke odor from furniture?

My husband and I live in an apartment directly above a smoker, in a building without much between units, so for the most part, everything we own now smells like smoke. We are going to be moving to a much nicer apartment in just a few weeks, and I would really like to get all the smoke smells out of all our furniture so that it doesn't stink up our shiny new apartment. What is the best way to get all the smell out of our mattress, futon, chairs, and other things? I've heard that the best thing to do is let them sit outside in some fresh air, but we won't have a place to do that. Any other ideas? (Something that will get rid of the odor completely, not just cover it up, like febreeze or the like) Thanks!I'm not trying to get it out of the apartment itself, just out of the furniture and mattress. more

Resolved Question: Bedbugs! How to get rid of them?

My boyfriend and I have been doing a lot of traveling, and we think we brought home bedbugs from one of our trips. Where we live, we know it is common to have bedbugs, but we need some help to stop them! We have done A LOT of research, and have been living with the bedbug problem for nearly 2 weeks! I have been getting eaten alive, and my boyfriend suffers minorly (we know that males tend to not show a reaction quite as bad as females do). This is a serious problem! We have invested in a "dust mite" mattress cover, and have purchased covers for the pillows. We will be getting one for the futon soon. We had the exterminator in the house the other day, and he lazily sprayed around and checked the bed area(s) and said that it was unlikely for them to travel through the carpets. We know they are laying eggs, at least one batch has probably already hatched. We have sprayed the rooms with "Pronto: bedbug and dust mite" spray several times... no luck. What should we do! If we move, we will take the bugs to the new place! should we bag up all the clothing, and wash them? Vacuum the house? I am desperate! We have been losing sleep to this infestation! more

Resolved Question: Am i just being to hormonal?

I'm currently 35 weeks pregnant and very uncomfortable and just yucky. I work full time and come home and clean. My husband today informed me that his grandparents wanted to come up and stay with us tomorrow night, normally i wouldn't have a problem with this except my older brother is staying the week and we have no place to sleep them ( its a one bedroom apartment and we got rid of our futon to save space). My husband said they were bringing their own thing to sleep on in the living room, but i can't allow them to sleep on the floor their in the 70's. Plus my brother stays up until ungodly hours of the morning playing around on the internet and i don't want that to disturb them. I hate when my husband springs things on me and expects an answer right there and then. Normally we'd give up our bed for them but three of us can't sleep on a couch and i am not comfortable on the floor or an air mattress. I tried explaining everything to my husband when he asked why i looked mad but he then shrugged and said you're sweating the small stuff and being hormonal. To make matters worse they have a big dog that comes with them and my poor cats freak out when then dog is here, they won't eat and they'll sneak to their litter box. Also i spent all day organizing and cleaning the apartment because i'm nesting and they tend to make a mess when they're here and i work 2 to 10 5 days a week to come home and pick up the house. My husband will try but he just does the minimum. I guess i'm just not in the mood to have the apartment packed for the next few days. Am i being hormonal or am i being rational with this, i don't want them to be uncomfortable but i don't want my brother who was here first to have issues, and i don't want to be uncomfortable myself. I've been worrying about this all night. Tell me i'm not insane lolThank you everyone my hubby is not a bad guy he's actually great with me normally but he just wasn't so smooth with this. He does the same with his brother who eats our food, uses our internet, and leaves before he has to do anything. I love my hubby to death but i feel like i want to sit on him and tell him how it is. more

Resolved Question: will a futon work for two? for only 6 months?

HI I've been looking for options to use as a bedding. I'm on a very tight budget and i was looking to but a futon in big lots for 199 plus a 20% discount the problem is that is the display futon and is been out there for 6 months the guy in best buy told me it wouldn't last for two people but when i sat down on it, it felt very solid. he told me that it wouldnt last after he found out that it was 160 and he said for me to wait till he put it on clearance so if it breaks they can give me a new one which would mean that i would pay 199 not 160 and i would have to sleep on the floor for maybe two days should i believe him or just go ahead and buy that one at 160 since its cheaper for me and my boyfriend. do keep in mind that is for daily use of six months? oh yeah and mattresses are too expensive for me....... or should i just buy a cheap one from walmart? plz help me ive heard sooo many bad reviews from people that bought futons in walmart or other places and it seems like if u dont put it together right it breaks... HELP! more

Resolved Question: What is a good idea for an inexpensive but comfortable sleeping arrangement?

I will not be living long in the place I'm staying now (only about 8 months) and i don't want to bother trying to ship any furniture when I move. So between a bed, air mattress, futon, fold out couch, or just mattress pad on the floor, what would be the best and most practical for cheap. Comfort is also important. more

Resolved Question: Bad gifts, tacky gifts... even insulting gifts?

Let me preface by saying I don't believe gifts are required under most circumstances (weddings are an exception), but beyond that, I don't really want someone to give me a gift as a sign of appreciation. If someone says Thank You, and really means it, that is better than something bought in a store. That said, I have received over the years, gifts I thought were kind of an insult, or gotten none at all. Here's an example: many years ago the sister of a Brazilian friend was going to University in Chicago. She wasn't happy there. So I offered to let her stay at my house. She and I got along great. Her mother decided she wanted to spend a couple months in the States, and would only travel with her son (who was also my friend). They wanted to find an apartment nearby. Instead, I offered to let them all stay at my place. Many days I took the train to work so that they wouldn't have to rent a car. I never asked them for any money for groceries, etc, and never made them feel like they were an imposition; quite the contrary, I liked having them there. It wasn't always easy. They were rather rich, and therefore thought everything should be handed to them. I only had two bedrooms, so for the first month I slept on a futon mattress on the living room floor, so my friend could have his own room (the other room was shared by mother and daughter). When they were packing up to leave for the airport, they called me into one of their bedrooms, saying they had a surprise for me. I was a little embarrassed, because it suddenly occurred to me they might feel indebted for all the thousands and thousands of dollars I had saved them, and how I tried to make their stay as pleasant and problem-free as possible. I really hoped they hadn't gotten me anything expensive (which was a possibility; they were somewhat rich). I needn't have worried: they didn't buy me anything at all. Their surprise was that they had "cleaned the room" (which really isn't accurate; they didn't vacuum or dust; they simply had removed their belongings and thrown out the garbage they had accumulated). As a note of interest, when the son arrived with the mother (and remember, this guy was my good friend), he brought me the ugliest t-shirt you could imagine. This wasn't a matter of taste; this was obviously something he picked out in a few seconds from some bargain bin, perhaps at the Rio de Janeiro airport. He put no effort nor thought into it at all. More recently, a friend of a friend wanted to come to Prague (where I currently reside), so my friend asked if he could spend a couple nights at my place. I wanted to make his trip memorable, so I showed him around the city and took him to dinner at an absurdly expensive hilltop restaurant (just because it has a fantastic view of Prague; I did not choose an expensive restaurant to impress him). While I didn't expect a thank you gift from him, he gave me one. He had brought with him a tin of cookies. This was like a Euroean version of Salerno butter cookies, something you would pick up in the supermarket for $3. I was a bit offended; I thought no gift was better than that. He wasn't poor; he had a very good paying job. So, am I out of line to expect better gifts? As I said, I really prefer getting nothing at all, but tacky gifts seem downright insulting. What are the worst gifts you have ever gotten? To everyone: I am absolutely AMAZED at the amount of insight you all have! Every answer gave me something new to contemplate, and trust me, I have read each response very carefully. Yes, I realize I should set boundaries. My philosophy has always been, "If you want to do it, do it with joy, but don't whine about how hard it may be." I also agree that people will lose respect for you if you do too much. That is something I have been very wary of lately. Once again, thanks to all your fantastic responses, and I apologize to GreatRightWing who didn't realize that the Czech bible was not supposed to be an insulting gift, but merely to humilliate him for his lack of interest in foreign languages (inside joke)I don't want to single one person out, but "Posh" made a couple excellent points. I believe we think very much alike. To the considerate Brazilian lady who got the flimsy kitchen towel, I know exactly what you mean. The one national characteristic of Czechs I don't like (I am half Czech, currently residing in Prague) is their idea that, if you give someone a gift, they should give you something. Or the idea that you should just get a person "something", a code word for something of low quality. For example, I was on vacation with two Czech friends on the island of Thassos, Greece. The daughter of the owners was so nice, we decided to get her something. My friends were content to get her some horrible, really cheap bracelet from the tacky tourist stands by the shoreline. I found her a much nicer bracelet, something I exect she is still wearing. The other one? Would have been trashed in a couple days. more

Resolved Question: Does a futon provide a better amount of support than a box spring? and where is the cheapest place to buy one?

I want more space in my room and want to get another bed so i can get rid of my box spring mattress and get a futon but my mom says that they are not that comfortable and I really want more space but i want to be able to sleep good without back pain and all that so i want to know if they are more comfortable than a regular box spring. I also would like to know of a place to buy a good futon but at a low price. Plz and thanks. more

Resolved Question: How did you put your eight-week-old baby to sleep?

I usually nurse my baby to sleep, and then I carry her to bed when she has fallen into a deep sleep. Sometimes I nurse her to sleep on a futon mattress and slip away if she needs to take a nap during the day and I need some time to myself. Sometimes she falls asleep in her swing, and she almost always falls asleep in her Baby Bjorn. Her favorite place to sleep is on me. How did you put your baby to sleep at night when they were very young? How were their naps? Did you ever need to change their routines? When and how did your baby learn to fall asleep on their own?  more

Resolved Question: Have YOU ever done anything really Heroic? If so, what was it?

I have a key to my youngest sons apt. While he was at work yesterday, I decided to stop by his place and play with his "illegal" cat. When I got there and unlocked the door, his apt was full of thick white smoke that you couldn't see anything. I found my way thru the apt to the back door and opened it, still couldn't see thru all the smoke, and I was worried sick about the cat. Called the fire dept, called my sons work to tell him to get home, then went looking for the cat. I found the source of the fire/smoke, his futon mattress was smoldering amd on fire. I drug it outside, where it exploded into flames, then went back in and found the cat ALIVE, and saved him. I was told by a few people that if I hadn't acted in the way I did or been there at all, the whole place would have gone up in flames.  more

Resolved Question: your bed or room with equivalent?

my question is if you have/had a 2 bedroom place and family members came to visit and stayed with you what would you do in this situation: you have a bed which you and your spouse sleep in and then a 2nd room with only a futon but a couch that pulls out into a queen and could fit the futon mattress on it for extra comfort. lets say you offer your bed to be polite and they accept would you still be ok to give your room and bed to them and sleep on the couch and have to knock to get into your own room? basically would you be offended if someone family or not came to visit and then took over your room b/c they felt the couch was not good enough? one year before when we only had a futon we had to use a blow up mattress in the living room. our couch is in the living room now and i thought that if they wanted more privacy it would be polite to go to a hotel or accept what we provide them with. more

Resolved Question: How can I fix my livingroom? It looks like crap! Help!?

I decided to go with the main colors of tan, brown and olive in my livingroom. I want to get rid of my olive couch and get a fouton, but I want a neutral color for the futon mattress. I just don't want it to be *too* neutral, where everything looks muted. I feel like I have to many little figurines and it seems to clutter everything up, but I like them a lot and can't really think of how to re-arrange. I've got an olive and tan striped chair, small white table, olive couch, black tv stand, brown speakers, small brown wooden stand and brown coffee table...How can I do this without making it look like there's too much brown (the livingroom itself is brown and can't be painted)? I feel like the livingroom (although I want it to feel personal) is so much so that it makes it look like an eyesore. How can I fix this?? Are there any places to get cheaper home furnishings (aside from walmart/kmart/meijer)? more

Resolved Question: My cat hates this spot!?

I have a cat that I have owned for 16 years. She is perfectly healthy, by playing with her you would have never guess her age. A few months ago we got a futon mattress and left it on the floor so when people come over they can have a soft place to sleep. She has never bothered it, she normally sleep with me and my husband in our bed. We had people over the last week end in April and they slept on that mattress, ever since she poops on it (in the same spot) and no longer will sleep with us, but in the living room. We got rid of the mattress because of smell and we thought she was marking it (which is odd because female cats rub on things to mark thing, males urinate.) Last night she pooped on the rug in the same spot as before when the mattress was there. Why is she doing this???When we removed the futon mattress we steam cleaned the floor. Every night after she messes we use a steam stop cleaner after we pick it up. I don't think it's kidneys because when kidneys start to go the poop changes to watery or she has a hard time going. Which isn't the case, she goes fine all day (i've been making sure) and if she couldn't make it to the litter box then the mess would be in random places on her way to the box and most likely watery, not one solid pile in the exact same stop every night. more

Resolved Question: need to find cute chair for my room?

well im getting a new bed (pic= http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t132/PrincessHeidiNicole/yo.jpg ) and it has a cot sized removable futon thingy. the thing is, the mattress doesnt come with it and its $100 extra. AND the only colors it comes in are red and black. and that would go horribly with my room:[[ Sooo.... im not even going to bother with the futon thingy and i'll put a chair in its place.. i just dont know what i want. my room is designed with the colors of my comforter ( http://cheapdiva.typepad.com/the_cheap_diva/images/2008/03/27/north_shore_mini_comforter_set_6.jpg ) so i want something pink/fuchsia, orange, yellow etc. and kinda mod if possible:] i am willing to spend up to $150-175 please and thank you Heidi more

Resolved Question: I just want to die?

Last year my wife let me know that she had moved on. Nothing I did would change her mind. I was devastated. She began picking on me constantly and succeeded in driving me out of the home and down the street to my sister's one-bedroom apartment. I slept on a futon mattress on the living room floor for months. I continued to take my kids to school and she "let" me see them for a couple of hours on Thursday night and most of Sunday. I watched as she began openly dating the guy she had been secretly seeing. He would show up every night and spend the night, driving by my place each morning. I knew "where" he had been. I died further. I finally got the strength and the money to get a paralegal to draw up a marital dissolution agreement and divorce papers that split everything in half. In response, she filed a restraining order. I haven't been a father in months and probably won't get to be a part of my children's lives in their childhood. I'm barely holding on now.Not once did I ever hit her, keep from friends, call her a name, run her down, or even tell she was stupid. What I did do was disagree with her critique of everything I did and endure her family's disdain of me and my differentness (I'm white, they're Mexican). There were times when I went off about how bad one of her family treated me. In those times she would tell me not to talk shet about her family. Period. She didn't care what I was going through. more

Voting Question: How would you handle this sticky situation?

My husband's best-friend and best-friend's wife were my house guests for much of last week. They were invited for my husband's birthday and since they were coming from out of town they stayed a few days. The last time they were here one of my cats peed on the bed they were in (a futon). I cleaned it promptly and properly. This time the cat did it again, however, I was busy with the baby and and couldn't take care of it, I was told they would. I assumed they'd strip the bed and pour the enzymatic cleaner into the mattress. The next day they were using the same blankets so I assumed it had been washed. They didn't wash it at all, they left everything as it was flipped the mattress over, took a quilt I made for my baby in place of a sheet and used the same blanket (that smelled like pee) and still used it. Now I'm having a hard time to get the smells out of everything, ESPECIALLY the mattress.... What should I say to them? Yes, they were in a room with a door, they left it open.Well, its hardly a habit the cat has. Other than these two times, I don't know of any other times or places the cat has peed other than his litter box. Interesting two answers and I've thought along both lines... but they did tell me they'd take care of it, if they weren't going to do it, why not say so and wait for me to finish feeding the baby? more

Resolved Question: Where is a good place to buy inexpensive, but not "CHEAP" furniture?

I need to get furniture for my townhouse, we have a three bedroom, two bath, and two kids. My husband and I like modern styled furniture, but don't know a good place to go to get quality furniture that will not fiberboard apart on us, yet will not break our bank account either. Does anybody know of an affordable place to get furniture for our house? We will be furnishing the kid's rooms, our room, the living room, and the dining room. For a reference point we currently live in Virginia. We will be moving overseas next October, but we need the furniture now! A futon and air mattress is not cutting it, and the kids have outgrown their crib! more

Resolved Question: Futon Question ...?

My son has a futon bunk bed. He would very much like for the futon be be gone. He wants me to take out the futon and put a few video chairs and a small table under the bunk bed in place of the futon. I personally like this idea because ... well, my son is on his way to being sixteen years old and it would make me a lot happier if there wasn't a place for cuddling or laying down with such easy access if he had a girl in his room! Hee hee ... With the video chairs and table set up, he could play his games, the table could double as storage for his games and controllers as well ... and there would be no big bulky futon mattress to mess with. My question is would doing this compromise the structure or sturdiness of the actual frame in any way? Would taking out the futon make the bed shift or crook while he was sleeping on it? more

Resolved Question: Sleeping with a potential giant?

One more question about my lil' mastiff. The night we got her, I put her in my room to sleep with me. Since I sleep on a futon (eight inches, if that, off the ground) she jumped up (well, put her front two paws up. I couldn't help but lift her back legs) onto my bed. This is the fourth night she's slept with me, and I have no problem with that at all... while she's small. Once she starts growing rapidly, she's going to easily take up half my full size mattress. I've got a doggie bed for her, and I tried putting that on my bed, to see if she'd sleep on it and then I could move it down. Nope. She'd just move right off it. Any experience with giant dogs? Maybe when she's older she'll realize that there isn't enough room and sleep on her own bed? Is there some trick I should try that will show her my bed isn't the place she needs to sleep? Hate to ask such trivial questions, but the last dog I owned died when I was 8. more
