Resolved Question: Relocating to Kodiak Alaska...questions for locals or CG members!?
The issue: Transportation! I have a small, 4 cylinder, front wheel drive car. My guy has a big truck that is 4 wheel drive and runs on diesel. We are unsure if we would need two vehicles. What do you think? If we only need one which one would be best? Should we just bring both? He seems to think he would need a 'block' warmer for his truck...is that common to have in this climate? The issue: a house! We are looking for a 2-3 bedroom house...not much interested in an apartment. I can't find any rentals and don't want to buy. I would like to have something set up prior to arriving so not to spend much money on temp lodging or inconveniencing people we know there. Any suggestions? Okay, so about 3 years ago I moved in with someone. We got a place we could both afford together. Well..he loses his income and I cant afford it so we get evicted. We get another place we both can afford together and out of nowhere he decides to hitchhike across the country giving me like..20 minutes notice. I tried to keep the apartment (boy did I try, I did NOT want yet another eviction on my record) but of course, I got evicted. Anyway, I lived with as a roommate for a while and after a hefty deposit and great landlords I was able to get a place of my own! I've been the perfect tenant. Never paying rent late, no complaints, nothing. I have been there about 2 years. Anyway, Im moving up to Alaska in a few months. Here's the question (finally): What are my chances of getting another place of my own? I plan on paying first months, last months, second and maybe third months rent (along with a deposit) My rental history (besides those two times) are excellent. Even when my current landlord called the old landlords, they have me excellent references. I live in Alaska and recently moved out of an apartment. The landlord is charging me for Cleaning (which I spent 10 hours and $170 in cleaning supplies and Rug Doctor Rental), 2 trash removals (when I left there was nothing in the apartment) and various other charges that amounted to $715. One other which was a hole in a closet door that was there the day I moved in 7 years ago. Thank you for any help in this matter!As stated earlier, I moved out of an apartment recently and here are the charges the landlord took out of the deposit: Trash by dumpster: $60 Cleaning Unit est: $175 (I spent 170 on supplies and rug doctor rental). Trash Removal: $60 2 Light Globes missing: $45. Carpet Cleaning est: $85 closet door hole: $150. 1 separate billing for trash removal: $60 I was on a 1 year lease agreement and after it expired the landlord never asked to if me and my roomates wanted to renew. We did a walk through when we moved in and noted all dents and dings already present. Problem is, the one person that I moved in with has left state over a year ago and dont know what he did with the copy of the walk. The items I am confused about is the 3 charges for trash. First was dated 12-3-07 and the second was dated 12-13-07.
